On Tuesday, Azerbaijan announced the commencement of “counterterrorism operations” targeting Armenian forces in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Armenia denied the presence of its forces in this disputed region and called on the international community to intervene in what it described as Baku’s “aggression” against Karabakh.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense, in a statement, reported that its forces had conducted precision strikes against Armenian forces and military positions, with the aim of removing Armenian armed formations from what it referred to as “Azerbaijani territories” and destroying Armenian military infrastructure in the region.
The ministry also stated that the objective of the operation is to put an end to Armenia’s provocations and secure protection for those returning to the “liberated areas,” according to the statement.
The Azerbaijani Defense statement also mentioned that two of its soldiers were injured earlier today as a result of what it described as an Armenian military provocation.
