The Saudi capital witnessed massive celebrations after the historic victory over Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar.
However, Saudi Arabia’s win against Argentina wasn’t enough for qualification. The Saudi team bid farewell to the 2022 World Cup after losing to Mexico with a score of 2-1 in their final match of Group Three.
With this result, Saudi Arabia exited the tournament, having secured only three points from their historic victory against Argentina at the start of their World Cup journey.
Poland, alongside Argentina, advanced to the second round at the expense of Mexico with a sole goal scored by Salem Al-Dawsari, settling the competition between the two teams.
Saudi Arabia made its World Cup debut in the 1994 FIFA World Cup held in the United States. This marked the first time the Saudi national football team participated in the tournament.
Saudi arabia’s best performance in the World Cup came in 1994 when they reached the Round of 16. They managed to advance from the group stage, becoming the first Asian team to reach this stage of the tournament.
However, they were eliminated by Sweden in the Round of 16. After their impressive debut, Saudi Arabia qualified for the World Cup in subsequent years: 1998 (France), 2002 (South Korea and Japan), 2006 (Germany), 2018 (Russia), and 2022 (Qatar). However, the team struggled to replicate the success of their 1994 campaign and didn’t progress beyond the group stage in these tournaments.
